#nintendo #gaming #retrogaming Luckner's Landing Episode 29: How the Virtual Boy (Kind of) Killed Nintendo's Greatest Mind - an emeraldestoc.com production The Virtual Boy sucked. It's no secret it was by far Nintendo's worst console yet. But its story goes a little deeper than you might think. Gunpei Yokoi, the man who arguably created Nintendo in its modern form left Nintendo shortly after the Virtual Boy's failure and would meet a tragic end thanks to a freak accident shortly thereafter. What truly happened?... a freak accident. That's it. #batman #batmanarkhamknight #gaming Batman Arkham Knight is 11 years old now which GRAVELY offends me. As I ponder the cruel and unstoppable passage of time I'm also looking back at the last mainstream Batman game since I can't play Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight yet. What a sad, sad world. Does Arkham Knight hold up after all this time? Well, not really, but kind of. #deltarune #undertale #tobyfox #deltarunechapter5 #indiegame Luckner's Landing Episode 27 - We've Taken Deltarune For Granted. - an emeraldestoc.com production Deltarune is special. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again. But it’s something we’ll never see in quite the same way again-- no one will ever tell a story of this quality in the same way again, of this length, of this depth and commitment and attention to detail and buildup over time in the same way again, and getting to see this game only improve in terms of graphics and gameplay and music and storytelling with each new addition to it is incredible. I truly believe when all is said and done that deltarune will be seen as one of the legendary works of mastery that gaming and specifically indie gaming has to offer, and it’s something that deserves respect before it’s too, late. Because as far back as 2018 and especially now, I think we've taken this game for granted. At every turn, people have found ways to undermine just how incredible this game is, from being disappointed that it isn't just an Undertale copy to refusing to do like, any proper literary analysis. And now with the release of Deltarune Chapter 5, I think more people are taking this game for granted than ever. And hey, I've been there before. There have been times where I failed to see what this game was going for, like not caring for the secret bosses like Spamton or Gerson or Pink too much at first before I saw the full vision, so I get it, and I'm definitely not saying you can't criticize Deltarune or that you can't hold Toby Fox to anything less than a weird parasocial godlike pedestal, no, criticism is a very valid, very necessary thing. But a lot of criticism regarding Deltarune and Undertale I think stems from people's personal little fanfiction theories not coming true in game. Which is sorta pathetic. Anyway, what did you think of Deltarune Chapter 5? I can't wait to see what lies ahead in Chapters 6 and 7, so let me know what you think lies in store for us! #superman #movies #jamesgunn #dcu #dc Luckner's Landing Episode 26 - Superman One Year Later | Does It Hold Up? - an emeraldestoc.com production It's now been over a year since James Gunn's 2025 Superman movie released to generally widespread acclaim. Launching a new DCU and forging a way forward for DC comics media as a whole, Superman was able to inspire lots of hope in people for lots of different reasons and that was something pretty cool to see unfold. For the first time maybe ever, we had a definitive take on Superman to the extent the symbol for this iteration of the character kinda replaced the standard one. Crazy stuff. But does the movie actually hold up a year later or were the Zack Snyder fans right? I mean I wouldn't know... obviously... #nintendo #mario #mariokart #videoessay #nintendoswitch Luckner's Landing Episode 25 - The Boring Era of Mario | A Nintendo Retrospective an emeraldestoc.com production Alright so there’s this guy Mario right? Super cool, everyone loves him, not only does he slog around in sewage for a living, but he’s got a phd and he’s basically jesus, both carpenters! And he saves princesses from evil turtles or somethin’ I guess, whatever. In sum, he’s like the boy version of barbie. What's not to love about Nintendo's big cheese himself? Well during the 2010s, specifically during the Wii U and 3DS eras, Mario went through this weird generic phase where everything was super watered down and unoriginal. Why was this? Was it because of minimalist marketing trends at the time? Was it because of the successes of the more basic New Super Mario Bros games? Or was it because they needed something for me to talk about for 20 minutes? We'll see idk. Needless to say, Nintendo took us on a strange ride the last year, a year I would say was Nintendo's best... and worst at the same time. I mean we got really great games like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom remasters to... less great games like Drag X Drive and the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, in addition to shady business practices, insane predatory prices, and legal nightmares involving the... #starwars #movies #videoessay #indianajones #rocky Luckner's Landing Episode 23: The Legacyquel Curse | an emeraldestoc.com production Remember nostalgia? Good stuff. Everything was better back when you were 7 years old, trust me. What if you could show YOUR 7 year old a little glimpse of what your life was like back when YOU were 7 and you had to walk to school barefoot in freezing weather uphill both ways? That's what legacy sequels (or: Legacyquels) are for, baby. That, and just, a buttload of cold hard cash. But looking at these legacy sequels throughout the years, specifically the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy (the Force Awakens, the Last Jedi, and the Rise of Skywalker), the Indiana Jones sequels (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny), and the Rocky franchise (Creed and Creed 2), I wanna see if these movies really ARE as bad as they're cracked up to be. #nintendo #mario #zelda #finalfantasy #dragonquest Lots of old school gaming myths and urban legends get spread around and become integral pieces of gaming history, like the impact of the Video Game Crash/Atari shock of 1983, Nintendo supposedly running love hotels prior to their gaming success, the reasoning behind Final Fantasy's original title, Dragon Quest game releases being illegalized on days not starting with "Satur" or "Sun", Luigi's model being found in Super Mario 64, and Link's gender being customizable during the development of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, among others. Sadly, they're not actually true. But it'd be cool if they were. I got the idea to talk about these from a comment left by @allthelonely4287 when you and I gabbed about Super Mario Bros. 2 and how it's not technically a Yume Kojo reskin even though it kinda is but not really. So hopefully you enjoy and let me know which other gaming myths you find interesting. Unless you don't want to. idk im not your boss.
